Daniel Pearle Wins Laurents/Hatcher Award for A Kid Like Jake, Produced by LCT3

Congrats to playwright Daniel Pearle! Pearle’s A Kid Like Jake won the 2013 Laurents/Hatcher Foundation Award. The play will be produced as part of Lincoln Center Theater’s LCT3 programming in the summer of 2013.

A Kid Like Jake explores the unexpected challenges of marriage and parenting in the high-octane, competitive world of Manhattan privilege. Husband and wife Greg and Alex want only the best for their precocious four-year-old son Jake. When they apply to New York’s elite private schools, part of what makes Jake special—his passion for Cinderella and dress-up—starts to cause concern. Directed by Evan Cabnet, A Kid Like Jake will run off-Broadway’s Claire Tow Theatre from June 2 through July 14, with an official opening on June 17.

The Laurents/Hatcher Award is provided by the trustees for the foundation of Gypsy and West Side Story scribe Arthur Laurents and his parter Tom Hatcher. The recipient of the award receives $50,000 and an additional $100,000 toward the production cost for the show’s premiere. Previous winners include Jeff Talbott for The Submission and Jon Kern for Modern Terrorism.

LCT3 is a programming initiative devoted to producing the work of new artists as well as developing new audiences.
